Aura Bora – Grapefruit Elderflower

I’ve had a can of this flavor burning a hole in my refrigerator for months now—wanting to “save it,” I guess, since this Aura Bora water is hard to find, and a little pricey. I mean, it’s totally worth the $$$—their flavors are that good—but still, my water research funding grant has yet to come through. The tall skinny can’s colors are pink, pale orange, and metallic brown, and the almost abstract art is the weirdest yet. Well, I can make out some grapefruit slices, but then there’s some odd flowers and weird pods and disembodied eyes! Also, it says: “In my grapefruit land/ I search for the perfect mate/ Perhaps it is I” —that’s a poem on the can! I skeptically thought, okay, another grapefruit water (nothing against that, they’re grape, but there’s so many), but then I tasted it—Whoa! There definitely is something else! That would be the “elderflower,” I guess—it’s intense! What’s elderflower? The flowers of an elderberry tree, just like it sounds—there’s lots of culinary use in progress, when you look online, but I believe this is the first I’ve tasted—and it’s delicious—and this incarnation has a really intense, complex, herbal flavor. It’s always fun to check the constantly changing Aura Bora website. This one’s still available! The can art looks different—it’s as if mine had faded—maybe it did. It’s not an abstract, after all—there’s a mascot—it’s a peacock, named Pea!
