Bubly – Cosmic Swirl

A new Bubly—I guess PepsiCo is still interested in cranking out the new flavors with their sparkling water brand—and why not—no one drinks Pepsi anymore. Last year they sold what, like 100 cans worldwide? Here is a clever idea—tie-in with a movie! In fact, movie’s more prominent on the can than the flavor: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” It’s a good thing I’ve got the i, since I don’t have a 12-year-old to ask. It’s a feature length animated movie that’s based on a video game, involving a princess who lives in an observatory who’s kidnapped by someone who wants to drain her power to fuel a cannon that will destroy the universe. Sounds good! Maybe I’ll go—I no longer mess around with “small” movies, about things like murder and betrayal—I want the big stakes! The can is excellent, every shade of purple known to the Mushroom Kingdom, in backdrop and bubbles. Also, the can changes color slightly when chilled! How’d they even do that? Radium? I was half-expecting the water to be purple, but no, it’s clear. When is someone going to say screw it and put some color in their sparkling water? I’m against it, but I’d still try it! It would be fun to experiment and go with colors you don’t expect, like a lime-flavored water that’s red! They really knock your socks off with the flavor here—don’t hold back at all—too much for me, but even young sugar addicts and Dewheads should like it. It says “berry vanilla” on the can—and that’s what it tastes like—good use of the mighty vanilla. I’m not sure what berry—could be all of them together.
